Mr M. Copley

Hello. My name is Mr Copley. In class, we spend a lot of our time working hard on our Writing, Reading and Maths skills to help prepare for the SATs in May and to help get us ready for the transition to high school. We like to have fun in Year 6, but we also know we need to work hard and try our best in everything we do.

Mr A. Bates

Hello! My name is Mr Bates and I have been teaching for nearly ten years. I am passionate about inspiring all learners and I am very interested in the more creative sides of teaching. I began teaching in Brighton before moving back to my home town of Hessle. I have taught KS2 for the majority of my career and I love that age as children are ‘growing’ into who they are and have a basic understanding of humour! When I am not teaching I am lucky enough to be able to look after my two children and continue to follow another passion of mine – wedding photography.

Next week, will be our last at primary school with a mixture or fun activities involving art, preparation for leavers' assembly and then a sad farewell on the last day. Well done leavers of 2024. You've been amazing and Keyingham really hopes you pop in to see us again to let us know how you're getting on.

They all had a good time and are looking forward to the next stage of their school journey. Children who have been with us this week have written a wonderful balanced argument about the meaning of life according to different faiths, they have investigated rivers, explored space and produced some interesting photography in their artwork.
Next week will be a busy one again with our school play rehearsals and performance as well as the other children in the class visiting their secondary school. It’s looking like a very busy, full and enjoyable end to our time at Keyingham.

Over the course of this term, Year 6 have really given it their all and launched themselves headfirst into all their learning. We have written biographies, instructions and character descriptions, learnt about and constructed electrical circuits in Science. We became street food chefs in DT, prepping, cooking and eating Samosas, pan frying pitta bread to eat with hummus and making a delicious taco. We have created an art installation highlighting the impact of pollution and learnt how to ask someone how they are in French, as well as how to order a number of different vegetables. The children have enjoyed learning all about fractions, decimals and place value this term and can’t wat to put it to use, divvying out their chocolate coins!

When asked, it won’t come as a surprise, that the children’s favourite memories this term are dominated by their trip to Peat Rigg where abseiling, stream walking and rock climbing were all tried - some more successfully than others. One child said, “The stream walking was fun, but freezing!”

As thoughts turn to the Christmas break, Lie-ins seem to be one of the things people are most excited about, as well as opening presents and spending time with the people that mean the most to them.

Next term they are looking forward to more Maths, more DT and continuing to use the tools in forest school.

Merry Christmas from everyone in Year 6!

We did this by writing down the positive personal qualities of another class member we were given at random. This made people feel good about themselves as it was designed to raise our self-esteem.

This week in Year 5, we have shown courage by taking part in the first dance session this week and having to perform in front of other people in our class. We have also shown courage by having a go at a new arithmetic test and we also tried our best on the online Maths and Reading tests this week.

This week in Year 5, we have shown curiosity by delving into the lives of an Ancient Greek in our Now Press Play session and finding out about the way they lived and what happened between Athenians and Spartans.

Next week, we will continuing writing our persuasive letter to Mrs White in Writing and in Reading we will be looking at Ancient Greece. In Maths, we will be continuing our work on decimals and percentages. In the afternoons, we will be working on our next Computing unit ‘Game Creator’ which will involve using 2DIY 3D on Purple Mash. We will also be continuing our work on materials in Science, Pilgrimage in RE and Ancient Greece in History. Tuesday will also be our next Dance afternoon.

We also showed kindness by making sure we behaved well especially as the hall was full of parents and family members. One final moment of kindness was when we made a card to say goodbye to one of our class members who has left to join a new school.

This week in Year 5, we have shown courage by taking our time to put our double-page spreads for RE together. We have used all we have learnt about five different religions, their faith founders, how they show their beliefs and where they worship. We have used a variety of different ways to display the information and tried some new ideas.

This week in Year 5, we have shown curiosity by learning how to create a concept map on Purple Mash and researching different information on the internet to help us with this. In History, we found out all about workhouses during Georgian Britain.

Next week, we will all be having a well-deserved break and enjoying the Easter holiday. This will help us recharge and be ready for the Summer Term in two weeks. Have a great holiday everyone!
