<![CDATA[Blog Feed - Previous Year 6 News 2022/23 - Keyingham Primary]]> https://www.keyinghamprimary.co.uk%2Fblog%2F%3Fpid%3D100%26amp%3Bnid%3D12 Juniper Education Content Management System (CMS) Version: 4.5 (junipereducation.org) Fri, 30 Jun 2023 15:23:07 GMT Fri, 30 Jun 2023 15:23:07 GMT <![CDATA[ 30/06/2023 ]]> https://www.keyinghamprimary.co.uk/blog/?pid=100&nid=12&storyid=510 This week we were very excited to practise our play, especially on Tuesday when Marlowe was added to the rehearsals as Toto.  We’ve been asking the question, ‘What is life about?’ and creating double page spreads containing the view of different faiths about what they believe is important.  We had a really interesting IT lesson with Mrs White who called Chris ‘out IT specialist’ in to the lesson to take about networks.  We even got a look in the school server room – it looked like a fridge and had a lot of wires and spare equipment.  Tim Berners-Lee was also a name that came up in this lesson. We finished our Greta Thunberg style speeches in writing and have been studying the effects of climate change in Geography.  We’re looking forward to our performance next week and sports day on Friday.

We really enjoyed art creating our own vision of the school environment with oil pastels on the field.  Next week, we will be finishing out Greta Thunberg speeches about climate change and investigating the effects of climate change in our Geography lesson.  We will also be taking part in extra play rehearsals preparing for our play.

]]> Fri, 9 Jun 2023 15:12:04 GMT https://www.keyinghamprimary.co.uk/blog/?pid=100&nid=12&storyid=488 <![CDATA[ 26/05/2023 ]]> https://www.keyinghamprimary.co.uk/blog/?pid=100&nid=12&storyid=483 On Monday we had a full day practising our school play - it went really well.  Tuesday took us to Driffield for the food and farming education day.  The sheep dog had a good go at controlling the sheep but they were being a bit naughty.  The gun dogs were so well behaved and enjoyed diving in to the water.  On Wednesday we went to Dalby forest.  Bus ride was a bit long but shelter building was fun and hide and seek works well in a forest.  We finished off the week with some Roman numerals, some lovely handwriting and a Now Press Play.  Looking forward to half term break and our final stretch before leaving primary.

On Wednesday we demonstrated all our school values when we were drawing self portraits and learning how to sign and sing ‘What a wonderful World.’ It’s been fun playing a new game at lunchtime – hockey. It’s also been nice having lots more equipment out at playtime.

Abseiling off a 72 foot bridge was a highlight for many children. They certainly showed their courage with that one. Despite having lots of carrots, the food at Peat Rigg was also good. Orienteering in the dark, trekking through woodland, zip-lining through trees in the rain all added to the experience. We showed our kindness through supporting each other and were curious all the time about what was coming next. Archery was also a highlight for many.

We have completed our double page spread this focused on Conflict and World War One and Two. We did bench ball during PE.

Next week Year 6 will be going on there residential we can’t wait to tell you all about it on our return.

We have been learning about prime numbers during maths and will continue with this next week, we are also reading 'The Infinite' during the reading pledge.

We have shared, we have looked after younger children and even showed them how to play in the sandpit. We have been curious studying David Attenborough and writing biographies about his life. The ukele playing is also coming along nicely. Our Jigsaw lesson was about chocolate and how we get it and the impact it has on the communities who grow it. We've been courageous this week tackling some quite difficult maths problems and getting stuck in to all our learning.

This week in year 6 we have shown curiosity by trying new things in performance arts and PE. We have also continued to learn more on Evolution, Adaptation and Fossilisation.

This week in year 6 we have shown courage by persevering and giving our best during our best writing lessons and supporting each other’s ideas.

This week in year 6 we have shown curiosity by asking related questions to the lesson.  We’ve studied adaptation and evolution and written about the work of Sir David Attenborough.

This week in year 6 we have shown courage by trying new games or getting stuck in to games such as rounders.  We’ve also discussed our class book ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ with maturity.

This week in year 6 we have shown curiosity by asking great questions when it comes to learning. The rule of law was important to discuss and we handled it securely. 

This week in year 6 we have shown courage by pushing ourselves to conquer our fears when our legs were shaking and we didn’t want to go any further.

This week in year 6 we have shown curiosity by researching the Vikings and studying Viking runes.  We’ve also helped each other revise during the week.

This week in year 6 we have shown courage by working hard throughout our ‘dreaded’ SATs.  Overall they were okay with one or two tricky questions but we did it!

This week in year 6 we have shown curiosity by studying the Victorians and learning about the conditions in the workhouses.  We’re glad we’re in the 21st century now.

This week in year 6 we have shown courage by constantly tackling challenging problems in maths.  The new dance routines aren’t easy to remember but we’re doing great.

This week in year 6 we have shown curiosity by studying the Tudors and in particular, Henry VIII.  Unbelievably, he had six wives and had two of them beheaded.

This week in year 6 we have shown courage by constantly trying new things like dance.  It was tiring but enjoyable (we enjoyed it much more than SATs practice).

After Easter we will start some work on history, especially British history, in the run up to the Jubilee celebrations.

Alex is living at the inventor’s home (Mr Sayle) who is a suspect for the murder of his uncle (Ian Rider). 

•This week in Year 6, we have been learning about the lines of symmetry of shapes, solving problems using ratios and using scale factors to increase & decrease shapes in Maths.  In computing, we have been learning how to code programs using different functions such as: moving, speaking, repeating and the meaning of the word algorithm.

•Next week in Year 6, we will be learning more about computer coding and how to design our own game.  We will be practicing our mathematical and literacy skills in preparation for our SATs.

We have been learning tennis in PE.  We have also maturely discussed the issue of conflict.  As ever, we are working hard on our Maths and English.  Whilst in History, we studied the brave actions of Rosa Parks and the stand she took despite the consequences. 

Next week we will be studying computing and learning some basic coding skills on Purple Mash.
